Still/Moving 2020 Project

Still/Moving 2020 is a Pikes Peak Community College multi-disciplinary project which uses Visual Art, Theatre, Music and Dance to express the current world in which we all live. It is the idea that we have all had to adjust and be still in this moment, while finding new ways to move forward. It's the power of perseverance, of pushing past the discomfort of change and finding beauty in the human experience, even when it is not always beautiful. . .we must Still/Move.

Dance

From social justice events in our current world including: Black Lives Matter, the US Border crisis, and human trafficking, to the wildfires that have plagued California and Colorado; from COVID social distancing to political division, PPCC's Dance Department created four pieces that have been inspired by current events. Performed by High Altitude Dance Ensemble (HADE), PPCC's student audition based company, these four evocative & moving pieces leave the audience thinking, as they are asked to view in movement what cannot always be expressed in words.

Art Gallery

The primary mission of the PPCC Studio West Art Gallery is to bring a unique and diverse range of artists and experiences into the College for students to view, learn from and be inspired by. This mission and focus are also interwoven with the community we serve, integrating relevant and meaningful relationships and collaborations with other community partners.
Still/Moving is a collaborative multi discipline project, incorporating Dance, Visual Arts, Music and Theatre. The overarching concept is that we are all having to be still in this moment, while also finding new ways to move forward. This is applicable in almost every aspect of the human experience right now and what better way to express this moment than in visual and performing arts.

Theatre

The Theatre Department is a place where students can learn set construction and production, costume design, history, playwriting techniques, dramatic structure, lighting and so much more. PPCC is dedicated to continuing to provide students with these experiences and opportunities while navigating the current challenges and restrictions. Still/Moving has been a part of this adaptation of challenges and finding new and creative ways to move forward. Still Moving is the idea that we are in a moment of change and transition, while also having to remain, literally and figuratively still and in the moment. This concept has organically shown its relevance in all areas of performing and visual arts. Still/Moving has many elements to it that incorporate various forms of expression and interpretations of the current issues.

“Art has something to do with the achievement of stillness in the midst of chaos”

Our faculty of experienced musicians and teachers create a welcoming and supportive environment for students as they progress in their musical development.
